A referral program for Shopify

Your customers know people who would like your products. A referral reward gives them a reason to share, and gives the friend a reason to place a first order.

How a referral works

Every signed-in customer has a personal referral link in the rewards panel, with a Copy referral link button and share buttons for Facebook, X and Telegram.

  • The friend opens the link and sees a pop-up that offers the friend's reward. The friend enters an email address.
  • The friend creates an account with that email. The friend's reward arrives when they sign in to your store.
  • When the friend places a first order, the customer who shared the link gets the referrer reward.

Two rewards, and who can claim them

Each side gets points or a discount code for a fixed amount, with an optional minimum purchase. By default the referrer gets 1,000 points and the friend gets $10 off.

Only new customers can claim the friend's reward. Poinz refuses the claim when the email already belongs to a customer or has already claimed, and a signed-in customer who opens their own link sees no offer.

Your own texts

You write what signed-out and signed-in visitors read about the program, up to 200 characters each. For example: "Share this URL to give your friends $10 off and earn 1,000 points when they make their first purchase."

    Turn on the referral program

    Open the referral program in Poinz and turn it on.

    Set both rewards

    Choose points or a discount for the referrer and for the friend, and a minimum purchase if you want one.

    Write the texts

    Edit the signed-in and signed-out texts, then open your store signed out with a referral link to see the pop-up.

When the referred friend places a first order.
What is a good referral reward?
Give both sides about the same value. A discount works best for the friend, who has no points yet. Points bring the referrer back to your store.
Can customers refer themselves?
No. A signed-in customer who opens their own link sees no offer, and an email that already belongs to a customer cannot claim the friend's reward.
